On January 1, 2012, CCS started our first facility in Texas. Wanda, Terri and Bonnie all set foot in Midland ready to bring in the new year....in the jail. Little did we know that our little facility would be in the national news a few days later (see news about the Midland Airport).

The facility houses approximately 300 patients and the medical clinic is currently set up in a 12 foot by 25 foot room. The room is cramped with supplies, medical records, desks, file cabinets and everything else that comes with working in a jail. Over the coming months, the clinic will be relocated to a remodeled section of the jail. The new clinic will be the envy of the company with a full dental suite, three exam rooms, a spacious break room, a 120 square foot bio-hazard room, a 20 foot by 20 foot medical records room, a doctor's office and H.S.A. office (yes, you read correctly - 300 patients). I am a little worried that Wanda and Terri may be staying - they already picked out their offices in the new clinic area, they are wearing cowboy hats and they have a favorite spot for barbecue. Wanda doesn't even have a return ticket purchased yet....
Over the last month, Cam and Beth from People Strategies and Fran from People Development ventured to Midland to start the hiring and orientating process. The hard work that these ladies put into the front end of the startup paved the way for a successful first week and future success in the coming years.
In regard to the actual start up, Wanda and Bonnie have been tasked with training the new team on CCS's policies and procedures. The team of nurses in the facility have been extremely receptive and excited about some of the new tools that they have in place. They have been more than willing to bring a more professional approach to providing healthcare.
Terri has done a great job focusing on getting the clinic in order, setting up the files and "all other duties as assigned". By simply organizing the clinic and getting things cleaned up, the nursing team stated that they already sensed a higher standard within the medical area. It has been exciting to see this transformation in just a few long days.
This is proving to be a great launching point into Texas and excited to see continued improvements in the coming weeks and months. Many thanks to Chris Bove and the whole CCS Texas Team!
